1908
Yasui Sewing Machine Co. established. Sewing machine repairs and parts production started.
1928
Production of the first Brother sewing machine, an industrial model. Name "Brother" decided upon.
1932
Successful production of the first domestically manufactured domestic sewing machine.
1934
Incorporation and official founding of Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Co.
1941
Brother Sales, Ltd., established.
1954
First knitting machine marketed. Brother entered the home electric appliance field. Brother International Corporation established in the United States.
1958
Brother established a European sales subsidiary.
1961
Manufacture of a small lathe for schools commenced. Entered the business machine field and marketed Brother's first portable typewriter.
1962
Name changed to Brother Industries, Ltd.
1971
First high-speed printer produced. The 10 millionth sewing machine came off the production line.
1979
Manufacturing of sewing machines commenced in Taiwan.
1980
The 10 millionth typewriter came off the production line. Brother's first electronic office typewriter produced.
1983
The 10 millionth knitting machine came off the production line.
1984
Brother celebrated the 50th anniversary of its incorporation. More than 3,000 Brother typewriters were supplied for the Los Angeles Olympics.
1985
Manufacturing of electronic typewriters started in Brother Industries (U.K.) Ltd., BIUK, a new factory.
1986
Brother Industries (U.S.A.), Inc., BIUS, established in Bartlett, Tennessee, for the manufacture of electronic typewriters.
1987
BIUS started manufacturing electronic typewriters. BIUK started manufacturing microwave ovens and printers. Brother started manufacturing facsimile machines.
1988
Brother became a worldwide sponsor of the 1988 Summer and Winter Olympics, and supplied 5,220 typewriters for these festive occasions. Brother started manufacturing electronic labeling systems.
1989
Parts manufacturing factories established in Ireland and Malaysia.
1990
Brother established subsidiary finance companies-Brother Finance (U.K.) PLC.
1992
Brother became an official Olympic Sponsor of the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville and 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona.
1993
Established the Brother Sewing Technology Center, B-Square, in Japan. Started manufacturing domestic sewing machines in Zhuhai, China. The millionth facsimile machine came off the production line in Japan. Established Xian Typical Brother Industries, Co.,Ltd., in Xian, China.
1994
Brother Corporation (Asia) Ltd. established in Hong Kong. Began production of OA-related parts at its Buji Nanling factory in China. The two-millionth facsimile machine came off the production line in Japan. Brother Industries (Johor) Sdn. Bhd. began facsimile machine production in Malaysia. The thirty-millionth typewriter came off the production line in Japan.
1995
The 10 thousandth CNC tapping center came off the production line. Xian Typical Brother Industries started manufacturing industrial sewing machines in Xian, China. Shanghai Brother Industries started manufacturing typewriters in Shanghai, China.
1996
The 5 millionth facsimile machine came off the production line.
Brother became an Official Supplier of typewriters and an Official Licensee for P-Touch electronic labeling systems of the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta.
1997
Brother became an Official Supporter of the International Olympic Committee.
1998
Brother became an Official Supplier of the 1998 Olympic Winter Games and also an Official Supporter of the Paralympic Games in Nagano.
1999
The 10 millionth facsimile machine came off the production line.
